Chief Running Antelope was known for his courage during battle, diplomacy and oratory skills as head of the Hunkpapa tribe in 1851 and as an advisor to Sitting Bull. Hunkpapa was a group of the Lakota Indians and Running Antelope was a “shirt wearer” that helped mediate between council and headmen that carried out decisions and policies. He was one of the first to befriend the whites and may be the only American Indian to appear on United States paper money, such as the 1899 $5 Indian Chief Banknote.
The chief died in 1896 and never knew of his appearance on the Indian Chief Banknote. Paying homage to the bank note and Running Antelope, he now also appears on the 1899 $5 Indian Chief Banknote 1 oz copper round at Provident Metals. The note and rounds are often called just chief or Indian, and contain 1 AVDP oz of .999 fine copper.
Running Antelope’s likeness is depicted on the obverse of each round, along with the denomination, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “SILVER CERTIFICATE” inscriptions. The reverse features a Roman numeral “V” centered around a beautiful design reading the certificate’s value and “1 OZ .999 FINE COPPER,” “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ArtBarMint.”

For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
