History

The Philadelphia Mint was the first facility to produce the Morgan Silver Dollar, where the process of striking engraver George T. Morgan’s design was perfected as it was rapidly pushed into large-scale production after a legislative struggle over the coining of silver resulted in a law that mandate the American Treasury purchase millions of dollars worth of silver each month. The resulting coins went into wide circulation and became iconic coinage of the American West in particular.
