The US Mints $10 Liberty Head Eagle Coin is one of the most recognized designs in American coinage. Introduced in 1838 by Christian Gobrecht, the third Chief Engraver of the US Mint, this design was used on the $10, $5, and $2.50 Eagles. The $10 Liberty Gold Eagle remained in production for nearly seven decades, from 1838 until 1907. Right now, certified 1900 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1900 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin offered here is certified in Mint State 63 condition, housed in a protective plastic slab. While MS63 coins may exhibit some contact marks and light scratches, they retain most of their original mint brilliance. These coins are excellent representations of early 20th-century American gold coinage.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 1900 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin features a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, this version of Liberty wears a coronet crown with her hair tied back. Thirteen stars representing the original colonies surround her, with the coins date below the design. Inscriptions read LIBERTY and 1900.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1900 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin, the heraldic eagle is shown in full front-facing detail, wings spread wide. The eagle holds arrows in one claw and an olive branch in the other. Above the eagle, a banner with the phrase “In God We Trust” appears, marking the coin as a Type II variety. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TEN D.
History
In 1900, the US Mint scaled back production of the $10 Liberty Gold Eagle. Only two branches produced the coin that year, with the Philadelphia Mint minting 293,840 pieces and the San Francisco Mint striking just 81,000 coins.
