The eagle clutches the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other. There is a ring of 13 stars over its head. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TWENTY DOLLARS.

History

The 1900 release of these coins was the first in the 20^th century and one of the final years of availability for the series. In 1907, this design would be replaced by the famous Saint-Gaudens Liberty Double Eagle.
