You don’t have to be a fan of the Buffalo Bills to invest in the “Buffalo Bill” copper round at Provident Metals. As a unique investment and collectors item, the 1901 $10 Bison Banknote 1 oz copper round is similar to the highly popular 1901 Legal Tender $10 Bison Note.
With a bison in the center and portraits of explorers William Clark on the right and Meriwether Lewis on the left, the obverse of each round pays homage to the American West. The value of the Bison Note along with “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “UNITED STATES NOTE” are inscribed.
The bison featured on the obverse has long been thought to be Black Diamond by many, but it is actually said to be a bison that was shot in 1886 in Montana and then on display in the late 19th century at the Smithsonian.
Designed by G.F.C. Smillie, the reverse shows a work titled “Progress,” which displays Columbia standing between two columns with representations of agriculture just below.
