Provident Metals is pleased to offer you the 1901 $10 Bison Legal Tender Note in fine condition to add to your collection of historic US paper money. Paper notes adjudged to be in Fine-plus condition show common signs of wear and tear from circulation. This includes, but is not limited to, flaws such as creases, fold lines, or wrinkles on the note. Other flaws include wear along the edges, fading of the colors, and possible stains. All of the notes have similar levels of wear and tear from circulation, with some showcasing minimally better visuals at the surface level. Each of the notes comes with individual protective currency sleeves.

Obverse

The obverse side of the 1901 Bison Legal Tender Note features a depiction of the American bison with Lewis & Clark flanking the central design image. The shaggy beast at the center of the design is based on Pablo, a resident bison at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. who served as inspiration for the design. The portrait on the left of the note is that of Meriwether Lewis and the portrait on the right is that of William Clark, the leaders of the expedition to chart the lands of the Louisiana Purchase. The note has its numeric denomination noted in all four corners, with red serial numbers and a red US Treasury seal.

Reverse

On the reverse field of 1901 $10 Bison Legal Tender Notes, you will find a depiction in front-facing relief of Columbia. The female personification of the United States, she stands between two Roman columns holding up an olive branch in her left hand. The numeric denomination is again noted in the four corners, with the text denomination featured on the two sides of the notes design field.

History

The 1901 $10 Bison Legal Tender Note was the fifth design in the $10 denomination in the series and the second-to-last design. In 1923, the Bison Note design was retired and replaced by a portrait of President Andrew Jackson at the center.
