The $10 Liberty Head Eagle Coin is one of the longest-running coin designs in US Mint history. First introduced by Christian Gobrecht in 1838, this design was used for the $10, $5, and $2.50 Eagle coins. Among these, the $10 Liberty Eagle was minted for the longest period, running until 1907. Provident Metals now offers certified 1901 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins in stock.
Highlights:
These 1901 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins are certified in Mint State 64 condition, which ensures that the coins display a solid mint luster along with some light contact marks and small patches of hairlines. Some of these marks might appear in prominent focal points.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1901 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin features Christian Gobrechts design of Lady Liberty in left-profile, with a crown on her head. She is surrounded by 13 stars, representing the original colonies, and the year 1901 appears at the bottom. Inscriptions here read LIBERTY and 1901.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 1901 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin presents the heraldic eagle, a classic US symbol of strength. The eagle holds both the arrows of war and an olive branch of peace, with a national shield on its chest. These coins, as Type II issues, also feature a banner above the eagle with the national motto. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TEN D.
History
In 1901, the Philadelphia Mint saw a sharp increase in the production of $10 Liberty Eagles, minting over 1.7 million coins. That number was much higher than the combined total of the previous year. Adding in the coins produced by the New Orleans and San Francisco Mints, the total production in 1901 exceeded 2.8 million coins.
