The $10 Liberty Head Eagle Coin is one of the longest-running designs in American history, created by Christian Gobrecht, the third Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, in 1838. This design appeared on several denominations, including the $10, $5, and $2.50 Eagles. The $10 Liberty Eagle series ran from 1838 to 1907. Now, you can purchase a certified 1901-S $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Provident Metals offers these 1901-S $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins in Mint State 64 condition, housed in protective plastic slabs. MS64 coins have excellent luster with only light marks visible in the main design fields.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1901-S Liberty Eagle Gold Coin showcases Lady Liberty in left-profile relief, wearing a coronet crown. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, her portrait is surrounded by 13 stars, representing the original colonies. The coins issue year is engraved at the bottom of this design. The inscriptions include LIBERTY and 1901.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1901-S $10 Liberty Eagle Coin is the heraldic eagle, also designed by Gobrecht. The bald eagle holds arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, symbolizing war and peace. A banner above the eagle displays the national motto, and the S mint mark below identifies the San Francisco Mint as the coins origin. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, TEN D., and the S mint mark.
History
In 1901, the US Mint produced the $10 Liberty Gold Eagle at three facilities: Philadelphia, New Orleans, and San Francisco. San Francisco had the highest mintage, with over 2.8 million coins, while Philadelphia and New Orleans produced much smaller numbers.
