Few coins in American history can match the allure and prestige of the Morgan Silver Dollar. Originally struck between 1878 and 1904, this classic design was created by the great George T. Morgan, who would eventually become the 7th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. Right now, you can get 1902-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coins in certified condition online from Provident Metals.

These 1902-O Morgan Dollar Coins were struck at the New Orleans branch of the United States Mint. Later, the coins were sent to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, where they received professional inspection and certification. The coins are housed in protective NGC slabs that also include a label bearing the official certification details.

Obverse

For the obverse of Morgan Silver Dollar Coins you will find a portrait of Lady Liberty. One of the most iconic Liberty portraits in history, this design was based on the profile of a Philadelphia school teacher named Anna Williams. Youll see inscriptions on the obverse as well reading E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1902.

Reverse

Upon the reverse of 1902-O Morgan Dollars, a magnificent eagle is depicted. For this design, George T. Morgan studied real-life bald eagles as he attempted a more natural and realistic version of this heraldic bird. The reverse also contains the New Orleans mintmark and inscriptions reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR.

History

The Morgan Silver Dollar was struck at five branches of the United States Mint. These locations include Philadelphia, Carson City, San Francisco, Denver, and New Orleans. Today, all of these branches remain in operation except for Carson City and New Orleans. Carson City was one of the first branches to mint the Morgan, but it shut down when silver from the Comstock Lode ran out. The New Orleans branch was primarily responsible for producing Morgans, and so when this coin ceased production in 1904, the branch was no longer deemed necessary.
