Created by George T. Morgan, the Morgan Silver Dollar was launched by the United States Mint in 1878 and continued production until 1904, with a final issue in 1921. This dollar coin circulated during important times in American history, including the Reconstruction Era and the Gilded Age, extending into the early 20th century and leading up to the Roaring 20s. Right now, 1904-O Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1904-O Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is provided in a protective plastic flip. When you order multiple coins, you will receive them in tubes of 20 if they are available. All coins in this offering are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, with a composition of 90% silver and 10% copper.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1904-O Morgan Dollar Coin, Lady Liberty is featured in a detailed left-profile relief. This image was reportedly modeled after Anna Willes Williams. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, adorned with a laurel wreath and a coronet crown, surrounded by 13 stars. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1904.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1904-O Morgan Dollar Silver Coin features a heraldic eagle. Morgans design showcases the American bald eagle in a front-facing relief, with its wings spread and talons gripping both arrows of war and an olive branch representing peace. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the O mint mark.
History
The 1904 issue of Morgan Silver Dollars marked the conclusion of annual production for this series. From 1878 to 1904, the US Mint produced new Morgan Dollars each year. The 1904-O Morgan Dollar is significant as it was the last produced by the New Orleans Mint, which closed in 1909 and did not participate in the 1921 production after a 17-year pause in silver dollar coining in the US.
