The largest denomination of the US Eagle Gold Series was the Double Eagle. These $20 gold coins were introduced in 1850, more than 55 years after the first coins in this collection debuted at the new US Mint in 1794. By the 20th century, these gold coins were used largely for international commerce. Provident Metals currently has 1904 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coins available to you for purchase online in certified condition.

When you purchase one of these 1904 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coins, you will receive a Mint State 63 specimen in a plastic slab. Coins in this condition have impaired mint luster with flaws ranging from small contact marks and scattered heavy marks to small hairlines and detracting scuffs.

Obverse

The obverse side of the 1904 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin comes with a left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty. This design from James B. Longacre shows Liberty wearing a coronet crown with inscriptions of LIBERTY, 1903, and a ring of 13 stars.

Reverse

On the reverse field of 1904 $20 Double Eagle Gold Coins, you will find the image of the heraldic eagle. Based on the Great Seal of the United States, this emblem features a front-facing eagle with a ring of 13 stars over its head and inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and TWENTY DOLLARS.

History

The 1904 release was one of the final dates for the Liberty Double Eagle. Though more than 6.2 million coins were struck this year, just 5% are believed to survive today in Mint State conditions, most of which are below 63 on the scale.
