The designs on the obverse and reverse were first introduced in 1869 and last modified to appear as found on these notes in 1880. Obverse
President Andrew Jackson is found on the obverse of 1907 $5 Legal Tender Notes. This design element was introduced in 1869 on the $5 Legal Tender Note and is known among collectors as the Wood Chopper. President Jacksons portrait is found in the lower-left field with a vignette of a frontier family at the center of the design field. The frontier family includes a husband and wife with a small baby and a hound. The husband is holding an axe while standing near a downed tree.
Reverse
An ornate design element is found on the reverse of the 1907 $5 Legal Tender Note. The basic format of this design first appeared on the notes in 1869, but was modified to this specific design in 1875. On this side, you will find United States of America printed around the central field, with the Arabic numeral 5 in the upper corners and the Roman numeral V in the lower corners.
History
The 1907 Series in the $5 Legal Tender Note was the final release of modified imagery on this series. For the 1907 Series, the notes were modified to include a new version of the US Treasury seal. In this release, the Treasury seal was modified to take on a rosette shape.
