The 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coin comes from the historic Bank of Canada hoard. These coins were struck from 1912 to 1914 but never widely circulated due to the start of World War I. Instead, they were held in secure storage by the Canadian government. After being hidden for nearly a hundred years, they were finally released to collectors in 2012. Today, Provident Metals offers certified 1913 $10 Canadian Reserve Gold Coins to customers.

  • Arrives in a protective plastic slab!
  • Struck in 1913!
  • Limited availability of certified specimens!
  • Contains .4838 Troy oz of pure gold.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1913 $10 Canadian Reserve Coin displays a left-facing portrait of King George V. This design marked the first official effigy of his reign and includes the king wearing the Imperial State Crown. Inscriptions around the portrait are in Latin, a common tradition in royal coin designs of the time. The inscriptions include GEORGIVS V DEI GRA and REX ET IND:IMP.

Reverse

The reverse side of each 1913 $10 Canadian Reserve Gold Coin shows the 1868 Canadian Coat of Arms. This design features a shield divided into four parts, with each section representing one of Canadas four founding provinces at the time of Confederation. The inscriptions read CANADA, 1913, and TEN DOLLARS.

History

The 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coins were struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, but most were never used for circulation. Instead, due to the outbreak of war, the coins were kept in bank vaults and eventually held by the Canadian Department of Finance at the Bank of Canada. They remained there until the coins were released to collectors nearly a century later, in 2012.
