All inscriptions on the edge of the coin are in Latin.

Reverse

The reverse side of these coins bears the Austro-Hungarian Empire coat of Arms. The double-headed eagle holds the shield of the Hapsburg Dynasty to symbolize the rulers of the Austrian Empire during this time. The eagle clutches a sword in one talon and proudly wears a crown. On this side of the coin, you can see the mintage year and face value of the gold coin.

History

Ducat coins have a unique history unlike many of the coins we see on the market today. Austria began to issue ducats in 1511 during the reign of Emperor Maximilian, the Holy Roman Emperor. By the end of the ducats production run, they bore the image of Emperor Franz Joseph I.
