The United States Mint issued the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin one final time in 1921. After suspending production following the 1904 release, no new silver dollars were issued in the United States. Despite the interest in a new design when silver dollar coining resumed in 1921, most of the years production saw the return of the Morgan Dollar. Today, you have the chance to get 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins in certified condition online at Provident Metals.

In 1921, the US Mint restarted silver dollar coining with the reintroduction of the Morgan Dollar designs. In 1878, George T. Morgan was new to the United States and working at the US Mint as an Assistant Engraver, at which point he created the images used on the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin. In 1921, he was serving as the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and was able to witness the return of his 19th-century design.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 1921 Morgan Dollar is an effigy of Lady Liberty created in 1878 by George T. Morgan. This left-profile relief shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, laurel wreath, and a coronet crown. There are 13 stars on this side of the coin and inscriptions of E PLURIBUS UNUM and 1921.

Reverse

The reverse face of the 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin comes with an image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This design was also created in 1878 by Morgan and shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief. This design lacks the US national shield, but does include the eagle with its wings spread and the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. Inscriptions on this side read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.

History

The 1921 Morgan Dollar had the highest mintage mark of any date in the series. More than 86 million coins were issued in 1921, with the Philadelphia Mint alone contributing more than 44 million coins. The Denver Mint and San Francisco Mint also contributed roughly 21 million coins each.

These 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are available to you in Mint State 65 condition. Coins with this grade have high-quality mint luster for the date mark, along with the possibility of small, scattered marks, one or two larger marks, and one or two small patches of hairlines.
