The last time the United States Mint issued the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin for circulation was 1921. This issue came nearly two decades after the last strike in 1904 and marked the largest issue of the coins in the history of the program. Provident Metals now has 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins with an NGC certification available to purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase a 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin in this Provident Metals listing, you receive a coin that was graded Mint State 64. Coins in this condition showcase average mint luster and come with a variety of light-to-moderate flaws possible. These flaws include contact marks that could present in several small groups or as one-to-two heavier contact marks. Hairlines are also possible and typically showcase as either one-to-two patches or scattered throughout the field. Please remember the NGC used various label colors in the slab. All coins are still MS64 specimens. We are not able to guarantee which label color you will receive. If you buy more than one coin, you may get matching label colors or a mixture of the various label colors.
Obverse
The obverse of 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins includes a depiction of Liberty. This left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty was created with teacher and writer Anna Willess Williams sitting through portrait sessions with George T. Morgan to serve as a model for the design. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read E Pluribus Unum and 1921. There are also 13 stars on this face of the coin.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins is an image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. Unlike other 19th-century designs, this image lacks a US national shield. The design does include the front-facing bald eagle with the olive branch of peace and the arrows of war in its talons. The inscriptions on this face of the coin include United States of America, In God We Trust, and One Dollar.
History
The Pittman Act of 1918 authorized the US Mint to resume coining silver dollars after a long hiatus following the 1904 suspension of Morgan Dollars. The act also required the US government to melt down some 350 million ounces of silver to refine into bullion for later resale. The US Mint replaced those melted silver dollars with a near-equal volume released back into circulation. The result was a stunning mintage of 86.73 million 1921 Morgan Dollars. The Philadelphia Mint had the largest individual share of this mintage at 44.69 million coins. The San Francisco Mint and Denver Mint contributed 21.695 million and 20.345 million coins, respectively.
