The Morgan Dollar Silver Coin was introduced in the United States in 1878 and would enjoy regular coining on an annual basis for the next 26 years. After a 16 year hiatus through the end of the 1900s and World War I, the Morgan Dollar made a one-time return to circulation through most of 1921. Right now, you can purchase certified 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.

With your purchase of the 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin in this product listing, Provident Metals offers a coin certified as Mint State 64 by the PCGS. Coins in this condition exhibit average luster and strike for the age. Each coin is likely to have one or two small clusters of contact marks, one or two heavy marks, and the possibility of light hairline patches and other light scuff marks.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is an image of Lady Liberty. Inspired by the heiress Anna Willess Williams, this bust of Liberty is a left-profile image in which Liberty has curls in the hair at the back of her head and wears both the coronet crown with Liberty engraved on it and a wreath crown. Other markings on this side include E Pluribus Unum, 13 stars, and the 1921 date mark.

Reverse

The reverse face of 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins includes a depiction of the heraldic eagle. Designed by Morgan for this silver dollar in 1878, the heraldic eagle version shown here lacks a US heraldic shield, but still features the front-facing bird with the arrows of war and olive branch of peace in the design. Inscriptions include United States of America, In God We Trust, and One Dollar.

History

The United States Mint canceled the Seated Liberty Dollar design in 1873 with legislation that ended the free coining of silver in the US. Five years later in 1878, the silver dollar returned with this design from George T. Morgan. The Morgan Dollar was produced from 1878 to 1904 and again for 11 months in 1921. By December 1921, the US Mint was ready with the new Peace Dollar Silver coin design to replace the Morgan Dollar.
