Morgan Silver Dollar coins were introduced in 1878 by the United States Mint with a design from George T. Morgan. Mr. Morgan was a native of Britain and an artist-engraver who struggled to find openings at the Royal Mint of England. He was actually recommended to the United States Mint by the Royal Mint of England and the silver dollar was his first design for the American sovereign mint.

Obverse

The obverse side of 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins includes a depiction of Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. She wears a coronet with Liberty inscribed on it and a wreath crown in her hair which is pulled back in a high bun at the back. There are 13 stars on this side of the coin, as well as inscriptions of 1921 and E Pluribus Unum.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar is the heraldic eagle of the United States. It is featured within the national shield, but does have the same stance and clutches arrows in one talon with an olive branch in the other. United States of America, In God We Trust, and One Dollar are inscribed on this side.

History

The introduction of the Morgan Silver Dollar in 1878 ended a five-year halt in silver dollar production. The Morgan Dollar remained in production until 1904 and was then halted for nearly two decades. When silver dollars again returned in 1921, the Morgan Silver Dollar design was used until a new image could be created. This year actually saw the highest mintage of Morgans ever with 44.69 million struck at the Philadelphia Mint, 20.345 million struck at the Denver Mint, and 21.695 million struck at the San Francisco Mint.

These 1921 Morgan Silver Dollars are in Very Good+ condition, which means the coins are well worn but the design remains clear and flat with lacking details.
