The final silver dollar coin design released into circulation in the United States was the Peace Dollar Silver Coin. Introduced in December 1921 by the United States Mint as a replacement for the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin, the Peace Dollar reflected both a change in design preferences among Americans and the desire for a coin that radiated peace in the years after the horrible devastation wrought by World War I. Provident Metals now offers certified Peace Dollar Silver Coins to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase one of these Peace Dollar Silver Coins, the item you receive is housed in a protective plastic slab and comes with a Mint State 65 certification. Coins in this condition showcase a high-quality mint luster with a handful of small, scattered contact marks and no more than two larger marks or flaws visible.
Please note that while the MS65 grade is guaranteed, we do not guarantee which grading house assigned that grade to the coin you receive. All items are chosen at random once your payment is processed. As a result, you may receive differing grading house labels and date marks if you purchase more than one coin.
Obverse
The obverse field of Peace Dollar Silver Coins includes a modern, elegant portrait of Liberty with a towering crown on her head. Inscriptions on the coin include Liberty above her head, In God We Trust near her neck, and the date mark below.
Reverse
On the reverse side of Peace Dollar Silver Coins, the American bald eagle is depicted at rest. The bird sits perched on an olive branch as rays of sunshine emerge in the distance. United States of America and E Pluribus Unum are inscribed along the top rocker, with One Dollar on either side of the bird. The legend Peace is inscribed down at the bottom where a date mark or face value would typically coin on US coinage.
History
On December 28, 1921, the United States Mint began to strike the first Peace Dollar Silver Coins to replace the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin design. The Pittman Act of 1918 required the resumption of silver dollar coining in the US and Americans wanted the Morgan replaced with a design commemorating the hard-earned peace of World War I. The coins in this listing come from the primary 1922-1928 coining period for the Peace Dollar, as well as the 1934-1935 stint of production. While small numbers of coins were produced in 1921, none of those are included as possibilities in this listing.
