A major transition in the American supply of silver dollars was set in motion by legislation in 1918, a law called the Pittman Act that led to the retirement of older silver dollars from circulation and the minting of what became known as the “Peace dollar” silver coin. Produced in large mintages between 1921 and 1928, these coins show robust availability on the collectors’ market in uncirculated “mint state” grades. Many of those grades are certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), a world-renowned third-party coin grading service whose expertise has been trusted by coin dealers for well over thirty years. Provident Metals offers this 1922 Peace Dollar Silver Coin for online purchase.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a tamper-proof plastic container, labeled with its NGC-certified grade of MS63!
  • Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1922!
  • Contains 0.7734 Troy oz of pure silver.
  • One dollar face value backed by the United States government.
  • Obverse side features Lady Liberty.
  • The reverse side shows a perched eagle.

The 1922 Peace Dollar Silver Coin comes in a tamper-proof plastic container labeled with its NGC-certified grade; Mint State 63 indicates an average-quality strike with moderate marks and hairline scratches. Provident Metals fully insures your shipment against any possibility of a mishap in transit.

Obverse

The coin’s obverse field features Lady Liberty in a radiant crown, accompanied by the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “1922.”

Reverse

An eagle perches on a crag on the coin’s reverse field, with an olive branch at its feet and rays of radiance decorating the backdrop. This is accompanied by the lettering “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “PEACE.”

History

The Philadelphia Mint struck nearly 52 million Peace dollars in 1922, a production that was part of a major effort to renew America’s silver dollar coinage. Enormous quantities of older silver dollars had been melted down for the sale of their bullion to Great Britain, and the Peace dollar would be minted in equally vast numbers between 1921 and 1928 to replace those coins, using silver supplied from American mines. Due to those large mintages, the Peace dollar has become a widely available bullion coin popular among collectors.
