The “Peace dollar” silver coin was first minted between 1921 and 1928, part of a major shift in the American silver dollar supply. These coins are relatively common on the collectors’ market in mint state grades, with many of those assessments being certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), an internationally prominent and trusted third-party coin grading services whose experts have graded over 55 million rare coins over more than three decades. Those same experts estimate a surviving population of just over 131,000 Peace dollars from the Philadelphia Mint in 1923 that merit the Mint State grade of 63, which indicates a coin with an average-quality strike that shows moderate marks and hairline scratches. The 1923 Peace Dollar Silver Coin is now available from Provident Metals.

History
Almost 31 million Peace dollars were struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1923. This was part of a large-scale effort to renew the American silver dollar supply, set in motion by the Pittman Act of 1918. The Act authorized the melting down of hundreds of millions of extant silver dollars in order that their bullion could be sold to Great Britain, while at the same time mandating that American silver mines would supply the bullion for a vast supply of replacement coins whose design would celebrate the peace following the Great War. Thanks to their large mintage when they were first issued between 1921 and 1928, these coins have become an affordable mainstay for collectors and investors.
