In December 1921, the U.S. Mint released the Peace Silver Dollar, the final 90% silver dollar made for circulation. Meant to honor the end of World War I and the desire for lasting peace, this historic coin series continues to be a favorite among collectors. Provident Metals now offers certified 1923 Peace Dollar Silver Coins for purchase.
Highlights:
Each 1923 Peace Dollar Silver Coin offered here comes sealed in a protective plastic slab and is graded Mint State 65. These coins display bright mint luster and may show a few light contact marks. A small number of larger marks or minor patches of hairlines may also be seen.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1923 Peace Dollar Coin features Lady Liberty in a left-profile view. Her flowing hair and the radiant crown she wears reflect the spirit of hope following World War I. Inscriptions read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRVST, and 1923.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1923 Peace Dollar Silver Coin shows a bald eagle calmly perched on a rock. With its wings folded close and its gaze set firmly toward the horizon, the eagle is framed by a rising sun, symbolizing peace and new beginnings. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and PEACE.
History
Anthony de Francisci crafted the artwork featured on the Peace Dollar. On the reverse, the design shows a bald eagle resting on a rock while looking out at the rising sun. The eagle holds an olive branch in its talons, with the word “PEACE” engraved beneath it, making this coin a direct celebration of peace after “the war to end all wars.”
