Obverse
The obverse of the 1924 Peace Silver Coin features a striking representation of Lady Liberty, a creation by the skilled hand of Anthony de Francisci. His wife, Teresa, served as the muse for this design, capturing Lady Liberty in elegant left-profile relief and donning a crown Inscriptions include LIBERTY, 1924, and IN GOD WE TRVST.
Reverse
Turn the 1924 Peace Dollar Silver Coin over to unveil the reverse showcasing an eagle at rest. Perched upon a rocky cliff, the bald eagle’s wings are gracefully tucked at its sides. Grasping an olive branch, the eagle basks in the warmth of the sun’s rays emerging from beneath the cliff. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and PEACE.
History
Peace Dollar Silver Coins emerged a mere three years following the conclusion of World War I. The initial concept for these coins was proposed by Frank Duffield, and later, Farran Zerbe advocated for a coin that celebrated the arrival of peace. The culmination of these efforts led to the coin’s introduction, a little over a year after Zerbe’s paper was presented at the ANA convention in Chicago.
