The Peace Silver Dollar made its debut in 1921, following the final release of the Morgan Silver Dollar, as a tribute to the peace that followed World War I. This iconic silver dollar series was the last of its kind produced by the US Mint. After the Peace Dollars production ceased in 1935, no more silver dollars were struck by the mint. Right now, 1926-S Peace Dollar Silver Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each of these 1926-S Peace Dollar Silver Coins is in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. The US Mint produced Peace Silver Dollars between 1921-1928, and again in 1934 and 1935. Individual coins come in plastic flips, with multiples potentially offered in tubes of 20, if available.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 1926-S Peace Dollar Coin features Anthony de Franciscis iconic design of Lady Liberty. This left-profile portrait shows Liberty wearing a crown of rays, symbolizing freedom and light. The design is accompanied by the motto In God We Trust and the year of issue. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRVST, and 1926.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1926-S Peace Dollar Silver Coin, a bald eagle is perched atop an olive branch, its wings at rest. This peaceful image reflects America’s hope for lasting peace after World War I, with rays of light shining behind the eagle as it gazes toward the horizon. Inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, PEACE, and the S mint mark.
History
During 1926, Peace Silver Dollars were struck at three US Mint locations: Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. The San Francisco Mint produced the highest mintage that year, far outpacing both the Denver and Philadelphia Mints, issuing nearly three times as many coins as Denver and more than triple Philadelphias numbers.
