Obverse
On the obverse face of 1927 Peace Dollars, youll see a portrait of Lady Liberty. This elegant design depicts Liberty from the neck up with a neo-classical simplicity by sculptor Anthony de Francisci. Other design elements include a radiate crown in her hair and a few strands of hair blowing in the wind. You will also see inscriptions on the obverse that read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1927.
Reverse
The reverse side of 1927 Peace Silver Coins features an American bald eagle. In this acclaimed design, the eagle has its wings folded it looks off into the distance where rays of light shine forth. If you examine its talons, you will find an olive branch, which symbolizes peace. Reverse inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, PEACE.
History
Peace Silver Dollar designer Anthony de Francisci came to the United States in 1905, earning full citizenship in 1913. After studying under some of the greats like James Earle Fraser and Hermon MacNeil, Francisci became a fellow of the National Sculpture Society. In addition to designing the Peace Dollar, Francisci also produced the Texas Cavalry Medal, James Douglas Gold Medal, and the Lincoln Medal, among others.
