The United States Note was available for 109 years from 1862 to 1971. In 1928, the series was downsized to the smaller format the United States Treasury was using for all of its notes. The Series of 1928 also resulted in the cancellation of several denominations in the collection, with the lower denominations such as the $2 Legal Tender Note among the few to survive. Provident Metals now has 1928 $2 Legal Tender Notes available to you online.
Highlights:
When you buy 1928 $2 Legal Tender Notes online in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a note that is in Very Fine+ condition. Notes in this condition show only light wear and tear from circulation, with the potential for light soiling and no more than 10 fold lines. Many notes have been seven and 10 fold lines. Each note comes with its own plastic currency sleeve.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1928 $2 Legal Tender Notes features a portrait of President Thomas Jefferson. A version of this portrait had featured on the $2 Legal Tender Note since its 1869 redesign. The Series of 1928 redesign was not only the first small-sized Legal Tender Note, but it was also the first to set President Jeffersons effigy at the center of the field. These notes have serial numbers printed in red ink and a US Treasury seal that is also printed in red ink.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 1928 $2 Legal Tender Notes is a depiction of Monticello, Jeffersons home in Virginia. This was the first release of the notes with this image on the reverse side. Prior to the Series of 1928 release, the $2 Legal Tender Note featured only a simple vignette with the denomination.
History
The Series of 1928 note was the first small-sized note and offered eight varieties. These varieties were noted on the obverse as 1928, 1928A, 1928B, 1928C, 1928D, 1928E, 1928F, and 1928G. The series subset identifiers can vary or match on the notes you receive. The signature combinations of the Treasurer of the United States and the Secretary of the Treasury may also match on the notes you receive if you buy several.
