The $50 Federal Reserve Note was first issued in 1914 with the 1914 Series denominations of $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 notes. When the US Treasury and the Bureau of Engraving & Printing debuted the new small-sized notes in 1929, the $50 Federal Reserve Note was issued with the same obverse design and a new reverse design. The U.S. Capitol Building on the reverse of these notes replaced the previous imagery that depicted the allegory Panama symbolizing the completed Panama Canal across the isthmus connecting North America and South America.

Obverse

On the obverse of 1929 $50 Federal Reserve Notes is an effigy of President Ulysses S. Grant. The 18th President of the United States, Grant served as the highest-ranking officer in the Union Army during the Civil War, helping lead the Union Army to victory over the Confederate Army. These notes have green ink on the serial numbers and the US Treasury seal.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 1929 $50 Federal Reserve Note features a new design for the small-sized format. Here, the U.S. Capitol Building is found in the center of the design field. History

The redesign of the $50 Federal Reserve Note after 1993 kept the U.S. Capitol Building on the reverse, but shifted the focus to a view of the building from the steps leading to its main doors, eliminating the image of the cityscape of Washington D.C. in the distant background.

Notes in this condition have moderate signs of circulation use, mild soiling, and numerous folds, but can also have less wear with only light signs of circulation use, light soiling, and only seven to 10 fold lines.
