Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, the $10 Indian Gold Eagle Coin became the final design series for the first gold coin denomination in American history. First introduced in 1795, the $10 Eagle featured two earlier designs before Saint-Gaudens iconic Indian Gold Eagle design was adopted for this denomination. Each 1932 Pre-33 $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coin in this listing has been graded MS62 by either PCGS or NGC. Coins with this grade show muted mint luster and clusters of small marks, with some larger marks possible in more noticeable areas. The slabs protecting the coins may feature labels with varying designs, and we cannot guarantee whether the grading company will be PCGS or NGC. However, all coins come with an MS62 grade in this listing.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1932 Pre-33 Indian Eagle Gold Coin shows Liberty with a headdress inspired by Native American regalia. Known as the “Indian Head” design, the coin features a total of 13 stars arching above Liberty, along with the coins date of issue below her bust. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and 1932.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 1932 $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coin, a bald eagle is perched on a sheaf of arrows wrapped in an olive branch. Saint-Gaudens originally created this design for the US Penny, but President Roosevelt chose it for the $10 Eagle instead. This was one of only two designs created by Saint-Gaudens for the US Mint, both of which have made a lasting impression on American coinage. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TEN DOLLARS.

History

Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed the $10 Indian Gold Eagle coin during the early 20th century, a period known as the Renaissance of American coinage. The obverse highlights a unique depiction of Liberty wearing a Native American-style headdress, while the reverse features a bald eagle perched on a bundle of arrows. Both designs reflect the eras focus on artistry and cultural symbolism, championed by President Theodore Roosevelt.
