The Indian Head Eagle design was the final one to grace the historic $10 Eagle gold coin from the United States Mint. Introduced in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this design uniquely blends historic versions of Lady Liberty with American indigenous culture through the inclusion of a feathered headdress. Today, 1932 Pre-33 $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coins in certified condition are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
All 1932 Pre-33 $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coins available here come in NGC plastic slabs with a grade of Mint State 65. Coins in this condition have high-quality luster for the date and a few small, scattered contact marks. There may be one or two larger marks, as well as small patches of hairlines. Overall, the coins eye appeal is very pleasing.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1932 $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coins, Saint-Gaudens left-profile bust of Liberty is featured. Liberty is shown with a feathered headdress on her head. The band on the headdress includes the word Liberty, and an arch of 13 stars is above her head. The inscriptions include LIBERTY and 1932.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1932 Pre-33 $10 Indian Eagle Coins features the American bald eagle perched on a sheaf of arrows wrapped in an olive branch. The field includes the national motto, denomination, and nation of issue. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TEN DOLLARS.
History
The 1932 Indian Eagle has the highest mintage in the series’ history and was the penultimate release of the series. From 1907 to 1916, the US Mint struck the coins annually with Philadelphia striking coins every year but 1916, San Francisco striking the coins every year buy 1907, and Denver striking the coins from 1907 to 1911 and again in 1914. The coins were suspended during World War I and didn’t return to production until 1920. From that point, the coins were struck just five times before 1933 and by just one branch mint each year.
