The Peace Silver Dollar was the final silver dollar made with 90% silver for use in everyday transactions in the United States. First struck in 1921 and created by Anthony de Francisci, the coin was intended to represent the peace Americans were looking for after World War I. Provident Metals now offers 1934-D Peace Dollar Silver Coins in Mint State condition.
Highlights:
These 1934-D Peace Dollar Silver Coins have earned a Mint State 61 grade and are preserved in a protective plastic slab. MS61 coins may show average luster, with several small marks or scuffs and some noticeable larger contact points. Faint hairlines might also be seen.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1934-D Peace Dollar, you’ll find Lady Liberty facing left. Her hair is wind-swept, and a radiant crown rests on her head. The word TRUST is styled in the traditional Latin alphabet as TRVST, which helps set this design apart. Other inscriptions read LIBERTY and 1934.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 1934-D Peace Dollar Silver Coin shows a bald eagle perched on a rock with an olive branch in its talons. The eagle looks out toward the rising sun, reinforcing the message of hope and peace. The inscriptions here include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, PEACE, and the D mint mark.
History
The Peace Dollar holds a meaningful place in the story of American coinage. After the Pittman Act of 1918, which led to the melting of hundreds of millions of silver dollars, this new series was introduced as a replacement. The high-relief coins minted in 1921 proved difficult to strike, prompting later design adjustments. Though the Denver Mint struck a batch of Peace Dollars dated 1964, none were released into circulation, and they were reportedly destroyed.
