The Peace Silver Dollar holds a special place in U.S. coinage as the final 90% silver dollar struck for everyday use. First introduced in 1921 and created by Anthony de Francisci, this historic coin represents the country’s hope for peace after the devastation of World War I. Provident Metals now has 1934 Peace Dollar Silver Coins available in certified Mint State condition.
Highlights:
Each 1934 Peace Dollar Silver Coin in this listing has been graded Mint State 61 and is housed in a protective plastic holder. These coins show several contact marks, as well as possible hairlines and scuffing, though they retain a basic mint appearance with diminished luster.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1934 Peace Dollar features Lady Liberty in a side profile, facing left. She wears a spiked crown, and her hair flows freely in the wind. The word “TRUST” in the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is spelled in a Latin-inspired way as “TRVST,” which was a design choice by de Francisci. Other inscriptions include LIBERTY and 1934.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1934 Peace Dollar Silver Coin shows an American bald eagle in a peaceful pose. The eagle is perched on a rock, wings down, with an olive branch in its claws. In the distance, the sun is risingsymbolizing a hopeful outlook and the peace theme that defines this coin. Inscriptions here read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and PEACE.
History
The first Peace Dollars were issued near the end of 1921, following the Pittman Acts call to replace melted silver dollars. Designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the coin was meant to reflect the countrys desire for lasting peace. It remains the only American coin specifically created to mark the close of a major conflict.
