The Peace Silver Dollar was the final silver dollar issued for circulation by the United States Mint. First introduced in 1921 and designed by Anthony de Francisci, this coin series was struck across ten total production years between 1921-1928 and again in 1934 and 1935. Today, Provident Metals offers 1935-S Peace Dollar Silver Coins in certified condition.

Highlights:

  • Coin arrives in a protective plastic slab!
  • 10th and final year issue in the Peace Dollar series!
  • Final mintage of 1,964,000 coins!
  • Struck by the San Francisco Mint!
  • Limited number of certified specimens!
  • Contains .7734 Troy oz of actual silver content.
  • Issued a face value of $1 (USD) by the United States.
  • Bears a Grade of About Uncirculated 58 from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Obverse features the image of Liberty.
  • Reverse displays the American bald eagle.
  • S mint mark from the San Francisco Mint.

These 1935-S Peace Dollar Silver Coins are graded About Uncirculated 58. This means the coin retains medium to near-full luster with only light signs of wear on the high points of the design.

Obverse

The obverse side of the 1935-S Peace Dollar shows Liberty facing left. Her hair is loose and windswept, and she wears a crown made of rays. De Francisci is thought to have based this portrait of Liberty on his wife, using her as a reference when creating the artwork.

Reverse

On the reverse of this 1935-S Peace Dollar Silver Coin, a bald eagle is shown perched calmly on a rock. With its wings at rest and an olive branch in its talons, the eagle looks out toward a rising sun. This design reflects the hopeful message behind the Peace Dollar series.

History

Changes were made to the coins reverse after its original release. The first year, 1921, featured a high-relief strike with more detailed elements. But in 1922, the Mint changed the design to a lower relief to make production easier. This resulted in a softer overall appearance. Even so, the eagle remains a strong symbol of peace and renewal to collectors.
