In 1867, a process known as confederation was launched to combine the existing British colonies in Canada into one jurisdiction. Known as the Dominion of Canada, the new jurisdiction originally consisted of the existing colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. Upon approval and implementation of confederation, the colony of Canada was split into two separate colonies to be known as Quebec and Ontario.

Obverse

In this right-profile portrait, the Queen is captured early in her reign in the second-generation effigy. Reverse

This work of art includes the Royal Arms of England at the center from 1867, with the Lion of England and Unicorn of Scotland supporting the shield.
