In 1867, a process known as confederation was launched to combine the existing British colonies in Canada into one jurisdiction. Known as the Dominion of Canada, the new jurisdiction originally consisted of the existing colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. Upon approval and implementation of confederation, the colony of Canada was split into two separate colonies to be known as Quebec and Ontario.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 1967 $20 Canadian Confederation Gold Coin, you will find an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. In this right-profile portrait, the Queen is captured early in her reign in the second-generation effigy. The Queen ascended the throne of England in 1952 upon the death of her father and has broken the record for the longest reign of any British monarch. This portrait of the Queen was used on Canadian coins from 1965 to 1989. Inscriptions include Elizabeth II and D.G. Regina.

Reverse

The reverse face of 1967 $20 Canadian Confederation Gold Coins comes with a depiction of the coat of arms of Canada. This work of art includes the Royal Arms of England at the center from 1867, with the Lion of England and Unicorn of Scotland supporting the shield. At the top of the design is a crowned lion in passant guardant pose holding a maple leaf in its paw. Inscriptions on this face of the coin read Canada, 1967, and 20 Dollars.
