Obverse

On the obverse, you’ll find a dignified portrait of President Roosevelt, known for his comforting “fireside chats” – radio broadcasts where he spoke directly to the American people during crises such as the Great Depression and World War II. Inscriptions read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date.

Reverse

The reverse design features Sinnock’s portrayal of a lit torch, flanked by olive and oak branches. The olive branch symbolizes peace, while the oak branch signifies strength and achievement. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and ONE DIME.

History

Roosevelt played a key role in mobilizing the United States for war production and supplying Allied forces during World War II. He referred to the United States as the “Arsenal of Democracy,” highlighting the country’s role in providing military aid and supplies to its allies, particularly Britain and the Soviet Union.
