History

The Kennedy Half Dollar originally debuted in 1964. Following the assassination of JFK, Jackie Kennedy and the director of the U.S. Mint collaborated on a new coin to honor the fallen president. Production was expedited and included modified renderings of existing works from designers Frank Gasparro and Gilroy Roberts. The Kennedy Half Dollar replaced the Benjamin Franklin Half Dollar and is recognized today as a classic of American coinage.
