With its brilliant designs and the purity of its gold, the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold coin is one of the most sought-after gold coins. The purity of its gold and its weight are guaranteed by the Canadian Government. Initially minted in 1979 in 99.9% pure gold, it was one of only two pure gold bullion coins minted at that time. The RCM later increased the gold purity to 99.99%. Currently, Provident Metals is pleased to offer the 1982 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coin available for purchase.

The Royal Canadian Mint is the official mint of Canada. Founded in 1908 in Ottawa, it produces all of Canadas circulation coins. In the 1980s, a second facility was opened in Winnipeg when it became necessary to boost production capacity.

Obverse

A right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II, depicting Her Majesty at 39 years of age, graces the obverse of the 1982 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold coin. Since ascending to the throne of England in 1952, profiles of Her Majesty have been featured on the obverse of all Canadian coins. Later updates to her profile would depict Her Majesty at 64 years of age and 79 years of age. The profile of Her Majesty at the age of 79 is the first to not have her wearing a crown. Inscriptions on the obverse are ELIZABETH II and 50 DOLLARS 1982.

Reverse

The unofficial emblem of Canada, the Maple Leaf, graces the reverse of the 1982 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold coin. The Maple Leaf is a symbol of pride and nationalism for Canadians. Master engraver Walter Ott was successful in clearly capturing the texture and fine veins of the maple leaf in this design. He did such a great job that his design has remained basically unchanged throughout time, and is featured on all versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf coins. Inscriptions on the reverse are CANADA, 999, FINE GOLD, and 1 OZ OR PUR.

History

The Canadian Maple Leaf Gold coin was initially minted in 99.9% pure gold and the 1 oz denomination. In November 1982, the RCM upped the prize by minting the coins in 99.99% pure gold and beginning to produce them in additional weights. Through the years, the RCM has added 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz weights, 1/2 oz weight, 1/20 oz weight, and 1 gram. In 1994, for only that one year, the RCM added a 1/15 oz weight. Due to the purity of its gold, the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold coin is regarded as the standard by which all 24-karat gold bullion coins are judged. It is legal tender and its face value is stated in Canadian Dollars.
