Within the obverse design of the 1984 Chinese Panda Gold Coin, one can admire the grandeur of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This magnificent edifice, residing in the Temple of Heaven Complex in Beijing, stands as the complex’s largest structure and holds deep cultural significance as a place of Taoist worship and reverence. Inscriptions include the nation of issue and 1984.

The reverse design of the 1984 Panda 1 oz Gold Coin presents a rare artwork exclusive to that year. Gracing the coin’s field, it captures a captivating scene of a Giant Panda in a poised right-profile relief. Balancing on its hind legs, the panda elegantly clasps a bamboo branch in its paws, showcasing its iconic association with bamboo and its remarkable dexterity. Inscriptions include 1 OZ AU, 100, and .999.

Giant Pandas are primarily herbivores, with bamboo making up the majority of their diet. They have a specialized digestive system that enables them to consume and process large quantities of bamboo. Despite being classified as carnivores, the diet of a Giant Panda consists almost entirely of bamboo shoots, leaves, and stems.
