Proof American Eagle Silver Coins are one of the three available versions of the nations silver bullion coin. The coin comes in bullion, proof, and burnished versions, with the latter two both representing collectible options. Between the two, the Proof American Eagle Silver Coins has a longer history and greater mintage figures than its burnished counterpart. Right now, you can buy Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin 34-Coin Sets at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
When you purchase Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin 34-Coin Sets, the coins are shipped to you inside of protective presentation boxes that include individually housed silver coins. Each coin has frosted elements with mirrored backgrounds, and you will find one coin for each date mark from 1986 to 2020. There is, however, no 2009 coin as the US Mint suspended the collectible coins that year to focus on bullion coining.
Obverse
Walking Liberty appears on the obverse of all Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins in this 34-Coin set. The image of Walking Liberty was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and features in left-profile relief with Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon with the American flag over her shoulders. This design first featured on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947.
Reverse
Designed by John Mercanti for this series, the heraldic eagle of the United States is found on the reverse of 1986-2020 Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. Originally designed by Robert Scot in 1794, the heraldic eagle has been modernized several times. In this most recent modernization, the coins have a powerful bald eagle with the national shield and a triangular cluster of 13 stars above its head.
History
Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins were available from 1986 to 2008 and again from 2010 to the present. The 2009 halt in the program was due to the high demand for the silver bullion version of the coin. To meet that demand, the US Mint had to suspend its collectible coins to redirect all available silver blanks for coining the investment-grade version of the coin.
Ordering
Keep in mind as you order this set that mint marks will vary on the reverse side of the coin based on the date. Proof American Eagle Silver Coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint from 1986 to 1992, the Philadelphia Mint from 1993 to 2000, and at the West Point Mint from 2001 to present. As such, the coins will feature S, P, and W mint marks based on the date.
