Animal lovers, conservationists, and numismatists all have reasons to be interested in the 25th Anniversary World Wildlife Fund coins issued in 1986 and 1987. • Consists of 0.8410 Troy oz of .925 fine silver.

  • Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse.
  • A sea turtle swimming appears on the reverse.

Obverse
On the obverse is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen’s effigy appears on coins minted across the globe, and which image of the monarch you get depends on the year the coin was issued. The 1986 Bermuda Sea Turtle Silver Dollar Coin carries the portrait of the queen created by Raphael Maklouf. In this image, which was used on coins from 1985 to 1997, the queen is shown wearing the royal diadem, which is a specific crown worn by Her Majesty during certain official functions. Inscriptions on the obverse read BERMUDA and ELIZABETH II.

Reverse
The reverse of the coin includes a detailed rendering of a sea turtle. Seaweed sways below it as it appears to move swiftly through the ocean. The sea turtle is an apt choice for such a coin; there are seven species of sea turtle and almost all of them are endangered. The WWF works with other conservationists to mitigate the destruction of sea turtle habits and help them grow in number. The reverse inscriptions read ONE DOLLAR and 1986.

Packaging
Your coin will arrive in a plastic coin capsule. The capsule provides protection during shipping and offers a way for you to store and even display the coin if desired.

History
Numerous countries issued coins in 1986 and 1987 as part of a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the World Wildlife Fund. Some countries that participated in addition to Bermuda included the Cayman Islands, China, Cyprus, Indonesia, Thailand, Zambia, and Western Samoa. The effort was repeated decades later for the 50th anniversary of the WWF.
