Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins are some of the most respected and sought-after gold bullion coins on the market. Originally available only in 1 oz gold, the series quickly expanded in the early 1980s to offer fractional gold as well. Provident Metals currently has 1986 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coins available to you for purchase online.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with an individual protective flip!
  • 8th coin in the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Series!
  • Comes with the second-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II!
  • Contains 1/10 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Issued a face value of $5 (CAD) by the government of Canada.
  • The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II.
  • On the reverse is the sugar maple leaf.

When you purchase one of these 1986 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coins online at Provident Metals, you will receive a coin that is housed in a protective flip. The 1986 release of 1/10 oz gold coins in this series marked just the fifth date for this weight following its introduction in November 1982.

Obverse

The obverse side of 1986 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins includes a right-profile bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here at the age of 39 in a design that was created in 1965 by Arnold Machin. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 50 DOLLARS, and 1986.

Reverse

On the reverse face of the 1986 Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coin, the mint features the iconic sugar maple leaf design. This visual shows a natural maple leaf with inscriptions of CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1 OZ OR PUR.

History

The 1986 release of Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins marked one of the last issues of the coins with the second-generation design. Notably, the second-generation portrait of the Queen was the last Royal Mint bust used on Canadian coins. Starting in 1990, Canadian artists developed distinctive portraits for the Royal Canadian Mint that were not featured on other coin programs.
