Obverse

The obverse design of the 1986 Chinese Panda 1/10 oz Coin shows the iconic Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests motif that has graced the series since its introduction in 1982. The Chinese inscription arcing overhead translates to “The People’s Republic of China.” Inscriptions read 1986.

Reverse

The reverse of this 1986 Chinese Panda Gold Coin stuns with a delightful panda scene. A cheerful panda is depicted front-facing, strolling through bamboo stalks. The incredible detail and artistry bring this nature-inspired design to life. Inscriptions noting weight, purity, and face value frame the borders. Inscriptions include .999 1/10 OZ AU and 10.

History

When it debuted in 1982, the Gold Panda Series consisted of four weight selections from 1 oz down to 1/10 oz. A 1/20 oz coin joined in 1983, followed by larger sizes in later years. With the exception of 2001-2002, the panda design on the reverse changes annually. Other adjustments included a revised face value in 2001 and a shift from Troy ounces to grams in 2016.
