The Chinese Mint introduced its Gold Panda series in 1982, starting with four weights and expanding to include a 1/20 oz coin in 1983 to meet the needs of investors and collectors. Known for its charming and evolving panda designs on the reverse, this series has become a favorite worldwide. Right now, 1988 Chinese Panda 1/20 oz Gold Coins are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1988 Chinese Panda 1/20 oz Gold Coin arrives in its own sealed plastic pouch. Since the series debut in 1982, the 1/20 oz coin has been a staple, initially issued with a face value of 5 Yuan. This amount was increased to 20 Yuan in 2001, and the coin transitioned from 1/20 oz to a 1-gram weight in 2016.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the 1988 Chinese Panda Gold Coins is an image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, a key structure in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. This building is a prominent part of Chinas cultural heritage and a revered Taoist site.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1988 Panda 1/20 oz Gold Coin features a Giant Panda sitting and reaching toward bamboo, a familiar sight for this species. The image brings out the panda’s well-known black-and-white markings, giving the design depth and a lifelike appearance.
History
The Giant Panda has become a global symbol for conservation, captivating people everywhere with its unique appearance and gentle nature. Efforts to protect these animals remind us of the importance of preserving our natural world and celebrating the creatures that make it special.
