With a face value of 10 Yuan, the coin measures 40 mm in diameter and 3.42 mm in thickness, with a weight of approximately 31.1 grams. Each coin will arrive packaged in its original circular, plastic container.
The obverse of the coin features a panda holding a branch of bamboo. The fineness, weight and purity of the coin are additionally engraved. The Temple of Heaven, located in China’s capital of Beijing, is seen on the coin’s reverse. PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA is engraved overhead in Chinese characters.
The Giant Panda, as it is officially known, is native to southern China. It is considered an endangered species, and only 240 pandas are known to be living in captivity within the country.
With a diet consisting primarily of bamboo, pandas typically live twenty years in the wild and thirty years in captivity. Although the dragon is the official emblem of China, the panda appears equally as often, serving as a mascot and symbol for various institutions.
