The Chinese Gold Panda Series made its debut in 1982, becoming one of the earliest gold bullion programs available to global investors. At that time, only a couple of other major gold coins were in productionthe South African Krugerrand and the Canadian Maple Leaf. Since the beginning, the 1 oz Gold Panda has served as a core part of the series, with a new design of the Giant Panda introduced each year. Provident Metals is pleased to offer the 1989 Chinese Panda 1 oz Gold Coin to customers.
Highlights:
All 1989 Chinese Panda 1 oz Gold Coins listed here come sealed in original plastic pouches from the mint. These coins carry whats referred to as a Small Date engraving, which means the numbers in the date are smaller and spaced more closely than other variations.
Obverse
The obverse design of 1989 Chinese Panda Gold Coins shows the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This structure is part of the larger Temple of Heaven in Beijing, a Taoist religious site located in the southern part of the city.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1989 Panda 1 oz Gold Coin features a Giant Panda as it sits, calmly enjoying some bamboo. Pandas tend to be solitary animals, only interacting during the short mating season. Outside of eating, pandas alternate between resting and occasional activity. Theyre most energetic during early morning and evening hours.
History
Giant pandas are known for their lengthy eating sessionsspending between 10 and 16 hours a day chewing on bamboo. This plant makes up around 99% of their diet. They have a specially adapted wrist bone that helps them grasp bamboo like a hand, giving them an easy way to hold and break stalks. A typical adult panda will consume anywhere from 20 to 40 pounds of bamboo each day.
