History

The American Gold Eagle coin has been considered the official gold coin of the U.S. since it was initially released in 1987. This collection has remained a fan-favorite for many years among collectors and investors worldwide. The 1/10 fractional-weight coin wasnt introduced until 1988; it was then manufactured in Philadelphia until 1993, when production then transitioned to the West Point Mint in 1994.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1989-P Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin shows a modified rendition of Augustus Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle design that was featured on U.S. twenty-dollar gold pieces from 1907 to 1933. In the image, Lady Liberty is shown with her long hair flowing behind her, carrying a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. At the bottom left of the obverse is the U.S. Capitol Building appearing in the background.

Reverse

The reverse design featured on the 1989-P Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin is an image originally created by Miley Busiek. A family of eagles is shown; the male eagle flies overhead while the female waits in the nest with her hatchlings. In his talons, the male carries an olive branch.
