This set contains four 1989 Proof Canadian Maple Leaf Gold coins, one each of the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz weights. To preserve the beauty of their frosted foreground and a mirror-like background, each Proof coin is packaged in a protective capsule, and the four capsules are placed in a mint-issued box. Right now, Provident Metals has the 1989 Proof Canadian Maple Leaf Gold 10th Anniversary 4-Coin Set, with Box and COA, available for purchase.
Highlights:
The Maple Leaf Gold coins are among the purest official gold bullion coins in the world. The consistency of their design and mintage often make them the 24-karat gold bullion coin by which others are judged.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1989 Maple Leaf Gold coins highlights the 2nd generation version of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is depicted by a right-facing profile of the Queen at 39 years of age. Created by British coin designer Arnold Machin, this particular version of Her Majesty is appearing for its final year on the Maple Leaf Gold coins. Included inscriptions are ELIZABETH II, 1989, and the specific coins face value.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1989 Maple Leaf Gold coins spotlight the treasured Maple Leaf. RCM master engraver Walter Ott created this design in 1979. Included inscriptions are CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, OR PUR, and the weight of the particular coin.
History
The Royal Canadian Mint initially minted the Maple Leaf Gold coins in 99.9% pure gold and only the 1 oz weight. In November 1982, the purity of the gold was increased to 99.99% pure gold and the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz weights were added. In 1986, the RCM added the 1/2 oz weight. These four weights are what is included in this 10th Anniversary 4-coin set.
