Designs
The 1989 US Mint Set features all five designs from the most common forms of American coinage. These include the Lincoln Penny, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and the Kennedy Half Dollar. These coins have varying histories in production, with the Kennedy Half Dollar being the newest as it was first issued in 1964, just months after the Presidents assassination. The Lincoln Penny has the oldest singular design, with President Abraham Lincoln featuring on the obverse as of 1909. However, the Washington Quarter has the oldest obverse and reverse design combination, with both images in use since 1932.
