Obverse
1989 Proof American Eagle Gold Coins feature a majestic portrayal of Lady Liberty on the obverse, with her figure shown standing tall and proud with a torch and an olive branch in her hands. Inscriptions on this side include LIBERTY, the P mint mark of the Philadelphia Mint, and the Roman numerals for 1989.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 1989-P Proof Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin, a family of eagles is depicted. The male eagle is shown in flight with an olive branch in its talons, while the female eagle and her young are perched on a tree branch. History
The mintage of the 1989 coin in this series remains one of the highest in program history. The 1988 coin, the first of the series, has the highest mintage in program history. The only other coin with a higher mintage than the 1989 coin is the 1990 coin.
