Obverse

In the foreground, the Roman goddess Minerva can be seen. She is the goddess of wisdom and war. Below her, a grizzly bear is eating grapes, which are situated alongside grain these represent the vineyards and other agriculture of the state. A miner and ships can be seen, and these indicate other important industry of the state’s history.
