The 1990 release of the Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin represented the last time the collectible silver piece would surpass 600,000 in the 20th century. Just the fifth year of availability, the 1990 release was the last coin to see a significant uptick in demand from the previous year until 2001. Right now, you can buy near-perfect 1990-S Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Provident Metals is pleased to offer you the 1990-S Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin for purchase in near-perfect condition. A coin with a PR69 grade from the PCGS exhibits full, original mint luster and has no more than two minor detracting flaws present. These detractions are limited in nature to minuscule contact marks or hairlines and limited in scope to the areas outside the primary focal points of the coin.
The included DCAM label is unique to proof coins and stands for deep-cameo. This means each coin has strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear fields. The contrast can be so stark that it may appear as though the design is floating above the field of the coin.
Obverse
Walking Liberty features on the obverse side of 1990-S Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. This vision of Liberty captures her figure walking toward the sun on the horizon with the American flag draped around her. The inscriptions include Liberty, In God We Trust, and 1990.
Reverse
The heraldic eagle of the United States is found on the reverse of 1990-S Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. This design was modernized in 1986 by John Mercanti and features a bald eagle in front-facing relief as it supports the US national shield. The bird clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons as a triangular cluster of 13 stars rests over its head. Inscriptions on this face read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, 1 oz. Fine Silver One Dollar, and S as the mint mark from San Francisco.
History
The San Francisco Mint was the first branch mint to ever strike the American Eagle Silver Coins. From 1986 to 1998, it released the BU version of the coin. From 1986 to 1992, it struck the Proof version of the coin with an S mint mark on the reverse.
